Judith E. Levy is a United States District Judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. She was appointed to the bench by President Barack Obama and has served since 2014.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Judith Ellen Levy was born in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1981 and her Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School in 1996.

Career[edit | edit source]

Before her appointment to the federal bench, Levy worked in various legal capacities. She began her career as a law clerk for Judge Bernard A. Friedman of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Following her clerkship, she joined the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Michigan, where she served as an Assistant United States Attorney from 2000 to 2014. During her tenure, she handled a wide range of cases, including civil rights litigation and criminal prosecutions.

Federal Judicial Service[edit | edit source]

On July 25, 2013, President Barack Obama nominated Levy to serve as a United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan. She was confirmed by the United States Senate on March 12, 2014, and received her commission on March 14, 2014. As a federal judge, Levy has presided over numerous significant cases, contributing to the development of federal jurisprudence in her district.
