Julee Cruise (December 1, 1956 June 9, 2022) was an American singer, songwriter, and actress, best known for her collaborations with composer Angelo Badalamenti and film director David Lynch. Her ethereal voice and unique style made her a prominent figure in the dream pop genre.

Julee Cruise was born in Creston, Iowa. She developed an interest in music at a young age and pursued her passion by studying French horn at the Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Collaboration with David Lynch[edit | edit source]

Cruise's career took a significant turn when she began working with David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti. She provided vocals for the song "Mysteries of Love" in Lynch's 1986 film "Blue Velvet". This collaboration led to the creation of her debut album, "Floating into the Night", released in 1989.

"Twin Peaks"[edit | edit source]

Julee Cruise is perhaps best known for her work on the television series "Twin Peaks". She performed the theme song "Falling", which won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance in 1991. Her music was featured prominently throughout the series, and she made several appearances as a singer in the show's fictional bar, the Roadhouse.
