Julie Frances Christie (born 14 April 1940) is a British actress. An icon of the "Swinging Sixties," Christie is known for her roles in classic films such as Darling, Doctor Zhivago, Fahrenheit 451, and Far from the Madding Crowd. She has received numerous accolades, including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Julie Christie was born in Chabua, Assam, British India, on 14 April 1940. Her father, Frank St. John Christie, was a tea planter, and her mother, Rosemary (née Ramsden), was a painter. Christie was educated at the Convent of Our Lady School in St. Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex, and later attended the Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

Christie's career began in the late 1950s with appearances on British television. She gained international fame with her role in Billy Liar (1963). Her performance in Darling (1965) earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress. She continued to star in critically acclaimed films such as Doctor Zhivago (1965), Fahrenheit 451 (1966), and Far from the Madding Crowd (1967).
In the 1970s, Christie appeared in films like McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971), for which she received another Academy Award nomination, and Shampoo (1975). She continued to work in both film and television throughout the 1980s and 1990s, with notable roles in Heat and Dust (1983) and Afterglow (1997), the latter earning her another Academy Award nomination.
