Karl Gustav Himly
Karl Gustav Himly (30 April 1772 – 22 March 1837) was a prominent German ophthalmologist and surgeon. He is best known for his contributions to the field of ophthalmology and for being one of the early pioneers in the study and treatment of eye diseases.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Karl Gustav Himly was born in Braunschweig, Germany. He pursued his medical studies at the University of Göttingen, where he was influenced by the teachings of August Gottlieb Richter, a renowned surgeon and ophthalmologist. Himly completed his medical degree in 1795.

After completing his education, Himly worked as an assistant to August Gottlieb Richter and later became a professor of surgery and ophthalmology at the University of Göttingen. He was instrumental in establishing ophthalmology as a distinct medical discipline.
