Karlsson's vodka

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Karlsson's Vodka is a vodka brand that originated in Sweden. It is known for its unique production process and distinct flavor profile, which is derived from virgin new potatoes. The brand is named after its master blender, Börje Karlsson, who is also known as "The Father of Absolut" due to his previous work with Absolut Vodka.

History[edit | edit source]

Karlsson's Vodka was launched in 2008 by the Swedish company Black Rock Spirits. The brand was created with the aim of producing a vodka that would retain the natural flavors of its ingredients, rather than striving for the neutrality that is common in many other vodka brands.

Production[edit | edit source]

The production of Karlsson's Vodka begins with the selection of virgin new potatoes from the Cape Bjäre region of Sweden. These potatoes are harvested early in the season, before they have had a chance to accumulate the starches that are typically used in vodka production. This results in a vodka with a unique, earthy flavor.

The potatoes are then distilled once in a continuous still. This is in contrast to many other vodka brands, which are distilled multiple times to achieve a neutral flavor. The single distillation process used by Karlsson's Vodka allows the natural flavors of the potatoes to shine through.

After distillation, the vodka is blended by master blender Börje Karlsson. Each batch of Karlsson's Vodka is a blend of vodkas made from different varieties of virgin new potatoes, each of which contributes its own unique flavor characteristics to the final product.

Flavor and Reception[edit | edit source]

Karlsson's Vodka is known for its rich, earthy flavor, which is a marked departure from the neutrality of many other vodka brands. It has been described as having notes of butter, vanilla, and black pepper.

The brand has been well-received by critics and has won several awards, including a Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
