Kelli Ward
American politician and physician
Kelli Ward (born January 25, 1969) is an American politician and physician who served as the chair of the Arizona Republican Party from 2019 to 2023. She is a former member of the Arizona State Senate, representing the 5th legislative district from 2012 to 2015. Ward is known for her involvement in conservative politics and her advocacy for healthcare reform.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Kelli Ward was born in Fairmont, West Virginia. She attended Duke University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology. She then pursued a medical degree at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.). Ward completed her residency in family medicine at the University of Arizona.

Ward worked as a family physician in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, where she also owned a private practice. Her medical career focused on providing primary care services to rural communities. Ward has been an advocate for healthcare reform, emphasizing the need for patient-centered care and reducing government intervention in healthcare.

Arizona State Senate[edit | edit source]
Ward was elected to the Arizona State Senate in 2012, representing the 5th legislative district. During her tenure, she served on several committees, including the Health and Human Services Committee, where she worked on legislation related to healthcare policy and public health.
U.S. Senate campaigns[edit | edit source]
Ward ran for the United States Senate in 2016, challenging incumbent Senator John McCain in the Republican primary. Despite a vigorous campaign, she was defeated by McCain. In 2018, Ward ran again for the U.S. Senate, this time for the seat vacated by retiring Senator Jeff Flake. She lost the Republican primary to Martha McSally.

In 2019, Ward was elected as the chair of the Arizona Republican Party. During her tenure, she focused on strengthening the party's grassroots efforts and supporting conservative candidates in state and national elections.
