Keurig is a beverage brewing system for home and commercial use. The machines are manufactured by Keurig Dr Pepper. The main Keurig products are the K-Cup pods, which are single-serve coffee containers, other beverage pods, and the proprietary machines that brew the beverages in these pods.

History[edit | edit source]

Keurig was founded in 1992 by John Sylvan and Peter Dragone. The company was initially focused on developing a single-serve coffee brewing system that would allow users to brew one cup of coffee at a time. The first Keurig brewer was launched in 1998, targeting the office market. In 2004, Keurig introduced its first home brewing system.

Products[edit | edit source]

Keurig's product line includes a variety of brewing systems and beverage pods. The most popular products are:

  • K-Cup Pods: Single-serve coffee containers that come in various flavors and brands.
  • Keurig Brewers: Machines designed to brew beverages from K-Cup pods. Models include the Keurig K-Classic, Keurig K-Elite, and Keurig K-Mini.
  • K-Carafe Pods: Larger pods designed for brewing carafes of coffee.
  • K-Mug Pods: Pods designed for larger travel mugs.

Technology[edit | edit source]

Keurig machines use a patented brewing process that involves piercing the K-Cup pod with needles to inject hot water and extract the beverage. The machines are designed to brew a cup of coffee in under a minute. Some models also feature temperature control, strength control, and programmable settings.

Environmental Impact[edit | edit source]

Keurig has faced criticism for the environmental impact of its single-use K-Cup pods. In response, the company has introduced recyclable K-Cup pods and has committed to making all of its pods recyclable by 2025.

Market Presence[edit | edit source]

Keurig is a major player in the single-serve coffee market. The company has partnerships with various coffee brands, including Starbucks, Dunkin', and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters. Keurig machines and pods are widely available in retail stores and online.
