Killeen
Killeen is a city located in Bell County, Texas, in the central region of the state. It is the 21st most populous city in Texas, and one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States. Killeen is best known for its close proximity to Fort Hood, one of the largest United States military installations in the world.

Killeen was founded in 1882, when the Santa Fe Railroad extended its tracks to the area. The city was named after Frank P. Killeen, the assistant general manager of the railroad. The establishment of Fort Hood in 1942 had a significant impact on the city, leading to rapid population growth and economic expansion.

Killeen is located in the Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood Metropolitan Statistical Area, which covers three counties in central Texas. The city's geography is characterized by flat plains and a warm, humid climate.

The economy of Killeen is heavily influenced by the presence of Fort Hood, which is the city's largest employer. Other significant sectors include education, healthcare, and retail. The city is home to the Killeen Independent School District, Central Texas College, and Texas A&M University-Central Texas.

As of the 2010 census, Killeen had a population of 127,921. The city has a diverse population, with a large number of military personnel and their families, as well as a significant number of residents from various ethnic and racial backgrounds.
Transportation[edit | edit source]
Killeen is served by the Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport, and has a well-developed network of roads and highways, including U.S. Highway 190 and State Highway 195.
