Klang (city)
Klang (or Kelang) is the royal city and former capital of the state of Selangor, Malaysia. It is located within the Klang Valley and is the third largest city in Malaysia. Klang is a major port city situated on the eastern coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

Klang has a rich history dating back to the ancient times. It was a significant location for early Malay civilization due to its strategic location along the Klang River. In the 15th century, Klang served as the western port of the Sultanate of Malacca. In the 19th century, Klang was the capital of Selangor during the reign of Sultan Abdul Samad.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Klang is located about 32 km to the west of Kuala Lumpur and 6 km east of Port Klang. It is bordered by Shah Alam, the state capital of Selangor to the east, and the district of Kuala Selangor and the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Airport to the north. The city also shares its southern boundary with the district of Banting.
Economy[edit | edit source]
Klang plays a key role in the economic development of Malaysia. It is one of the main gateway to the country due to its port, Port Klang, which is the largest port in Malaysia and one of the busiest container ports in the world. The city is also a part of the Klang Valley Industrial Area, which is one of the largest industrial areas in Malaysia.
Culture[edit | edit source]
Klang is known for its diverse culture. The city is home to a large population of Malays, Chinese, Indians, and other ethnic groups. This diversity is reflected in the city's vibrant food scene, with local delicacies such as Bak Kut Teh, a pork rib dish cooked in broth, and Cendol, a traditional dessert.
Transportation[edit | edit source]
Klang has a well-developed transportation network. The city is served by the KTM Komuter train service and the RapidKL bus service. The Federal Highway, the main highway linking Klang to Kuala Lumpur, is one of the busiest highways in the country.
Education[edit | edit source]
Klang has a number of educational institutions, ranging from primary schools to tertiary institutions. Notable institutions include the Universiti Teknologi MARA Klang Campus and the Open University Malaysia Klang Learning Centre.
Health[edit | edit source]
Klang is served by a number of public and private hospitals. The largest public hospital in the city is the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah General Hospital.
