Klevner (disambiguation)
Klevner is a term used in several contexts within the world of wine, primarily in Alsace, France, and in Switzerland. It can refer to several different grape varieties and wines.
Klevner in Alsace[edit | edit source]
In Alsace, Klevner or Clevner is a synonym for the Pinot blanc grape, a white wine grape. It is one of the officially permitted grape varieties in the production of Alsace AOC wine. Pinot blanc is a versatile grape, producing wines that range from crisp and refreshing with apple and pear flavors, to rich and full-bodied with notes of honey and spice.
Klevner in Switzerland[edit | edit source]
In Switzerland, particularly in the Canton of Zurich, Klevner refers to the Räuschling grape. This is a white grape variety that is primarily grown in the German-speaking parts of Switzerland. The wines produced from Räuschling are typically high in acidity with pronounced mineral flavors.
Other uses[edit | edit source]
The term Klevner can also refer to the Traminer grape, also known as Savagnin, particularly in the context of the Heiligenstein area in Alsace. This is a pink-skinned grape variety that produces highly aromatic wines with flavors of lychee, rose petals, and spice.
