Estradiol butyrylacetate/testosterone ketolaurate/reserpine is a combination medication that includes estradiol butyrylacetate, testosterone ketolaurate, and reserpine. It is used in the treatment of various conditions and disorders.

Composition[edit | edit source]

The medication is composed of three active ingredients:

  • Estradiol butyrylacetate is a synthetic, steroidal estrogen and a long-lasting prodrug of estradiol in the body. It is used as a component of hormone therapy for menopausal symptoms.
  • Testosterone ketolaurate is a synthetic, steroidal androgen and a long-lasting prodrug of testosterone in the body. It is used in androgen replacement therapy for conditions like hypogonadism.
  • Reserpine is an indole alkaloid antipsychotic and antihypertensive drug that has been used for the control of high blood pressure and for the relief of psychotic symptoms, although because of the development of better drugs for these purposes and because of its numerous side-effects, it is rarely used today.

This combination medication is used in the treatment of various conditions and disorders. The estradiol butyrylacetate component is used in hormone therapy for menopausal symptoms. The testosterone ketolaurate component is used in androgen replacement therapy for conditions like hypogonadism. The reserpine component is used for the control of high blood pressure and for the relief of psychotic symptoms.

Side Effects[edit | edit source]

Like all medications, this combination medication can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Some of the most common side effects include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and fatigue. Etymology[edit | edit source]

The names of the components of this medication derive from their chemical structures. Estradiol is derived from estrus (period of fertility for female mammals) and -diol (a chemical term denoting a certain type of structure). Testosterone is derived from testis (the male reproductive gland) and -sterone (indicating a steroid). Reserpine is derived from Rauwolfia serpentina, the plant from which it was first isolated.
