Gus Boulis (1949 – February 6, 2001) was a Greek-American entrepreneur and businessman known for his significant contributions to the restaurant and casino industries in the United States. He was the founder of the successful restaurant chain Miami Subs Grill and the casino cruise line SunCruz Casinos.

Gus Boulis was born in 1949 in Kavala, Greece. He immigrated to the United States in the early 1970s, seeking better opportunities and a chance to build a successful career.

Miami Subs Grill[edit | edit source]

In 1988, Boulis founded Miami Subs Grill, a fast-food restaurant chain that quickly gained popularity for its diverse menu and unique offerings. The chain expanded rapidly, with numerous locations opening across the United States. Miami Subs Grill became known for its philly cheesesteaks, gyros, and other fast-food items.

SunCruz Casinos[edit | edit source]

In the mid-1990s, Boulis ventured into the casino industry by establishing SunCruz Casinos, a fleet of casino cruise ships operating out of various ports in Florida. The business allowed patrons to gamble in international waters, circumventing state gambling laws. SunCruz Casinos became a lucrative enterprise, attracting many customers seeking a unique gambling experience.

Boulis's business ventures were not without controversy. In 2000, he sold SunCruz Casinos to a group of investors led by Adam Kidan and Jack Abramoff. The sale was marred by legal disputes and allegations of fraud, leading to significant media attention and legal battles.

On February 6, 2001, Gus Boulis was tragically murdered in a drive-by shooting in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. His death was widely reported and led to an extensive investigation. Several individuals, including those connected to the SunCruz Casinos sale, were implicated in the crime.
