Krzysztof Starnawski

Krzysztof Starnawski is a renowned Polish cave diver and explorer, best known for his exploration of the Hranická Propast, the deepest underwater cave in the world.

Born in Poland, Starnawski developed a passion for scuba diving at a young age. He began his professional career as a cave diver and explorer, dedicating his life to the exploration and study of underwater caves. His work has significantly contributed to the field of speleology, the scientific study of caves and other karst features.

Hranická Propast Exploration[edit | edit source]

Starnawski's most notable achievement is his exploration of the Hranická Propast, located in the Czech Republic. In 2016, he set a world record by reaching a depth of 404 meters (1,325 feet) in the cave, making it the deepest underwater cave ever explored. This discovery was made possible through the use of a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV), after the depth exceeded the safe limits for human divers.

Awards and Recognition[edit | edit source]

In recognition of his contributions to speleology and cave diving, Starnawski has received numerous awards and honors. These include the Speleo Club Warsaw award for his exploration of the Hranická Propast, and the National Geographic Adventurer of the Year award in 2017.
