Löwenbräu Brewery
Löwenbräu Brewery is a prominent brewery located in Munich, Germany. It is one of the six breweries that provide beer for the Oktoberfest celebration. The name "Löwenbräu" translates to "lion's brew" in English, and the brewery's logo features a lion.
History[edit | edit source]
The origins of Löwenbräu Brewery date back to 1383, making it one of the oldest breweries in Munich. The brewery was first mentioned in the Munich tax records in 1524. In 1818, the brewery was acquired by George Brey, who expanded its operations significantly.
In 1921, Löwenbräu merged with several other breweries to form the Löwenbräu AG. The brewery was heavily damaged during World War II, but it was rebuilt and resumed operations shortly after the war ended.
Products[edit | edit source]
Löwenbräu produces a variety of beers, including:
- Löwenbräu Original: A traditional lager with a balanced flavor.
- Löwenbräu Dunkel: A dark beer with a rich, malty taste.
- Löwenbräu Oktoberfestbier: A special beer brewed for the Oktoberfest celebration.
- Löwenbräu Radler: A mix of beer and lemonade, popular in the summer months.
Oktoberfest[edit | edit source]
Löwenbräu is one of the six breweries that are allowed to serve beer at the Oktoberfest in Munich. The other five breweries are Augustiner-Bräu, Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbräuhaus, Paulaner, and Spaten. Löwenbräu's tent at Oktoberfest is known for its large lion statue that roars every few minutes.
Ownership[edit | edit source]
In 1997, Löwenbräu merged with Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu to form the Spaten-Löwenbräu-Gruppe. In 2003, the group was acquired by Interbrew, which later became part of Anheuser-Busch InBev, one of the largest brewing companies in the world.
