History[edit | edit source]

LA 1225 was constructed during the height of steam locomotive production in the United States. The 4-8-4 wheel arrangement, also known as the "Northern" type, was designed to provide a balance of speed and power, making it suitable for both passenger and freight services. The locomotive served the Louisiana and Arkansas Railway until the late 1950s when diesel locomotives began to replace steam engines.
