LaGuardia Airport (LGA) is an airport in East Elmhurst, Queens, New York City. It is one of the three major airports serving the New York metropolitan area, along with John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). LaGuardia is primarily a domestic airport, with limited international service.

History[edit | edit source]

LaGuardia Airport was originally opened in 1939 as New York Municipal Airport. It was later renamed in honor of Fiorello H. LaGuardia, the mayor of New York City who was instrumental in its development. The airport was built on the site of the former Gala Amusement Park and was initially intended to relieve congestion at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Facilities[edit | edit source]

LaGuardia Airport has four terminals: Terminal A (Marine Air Terminal), Terminal B, Terminal C, and Terminal D. The airport is known for its short runways and close proximity to Manhattan, making it a convenient option for travelers.

Terminal A (Marine Air Terminal)[edit | edit source]

Terminal A, also known as the Marine Air Terminal, is a historic terminal that originally served as a hub for seaplane operations. It is now used primarily by JetBlue Airways.

Terminal B[edit | edit source]

Terminal B is the largest terminal at LaGuardia and serves a variety of domestic airlines. It has undergone significant renovations in recent years to modernize its facilities.

Terminal C and Terminal D[edit | edit source]

Terminals C and D are primarily used by Delta Air Lines. These terminals are connected and offer a range of amenities for travelers.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

LaGuardia Airport is accessible by several modes of transportation, including taxis, ridesharing services, and public transit. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) operates several bus routes that connect the airport to the New York City Subway system.

Future Developments[edit | edit source]

LaGuardia Airport is currently undergoing a major redevelopment project aimed at modernizing its facilities and improving the passenger experience. This includes the construction of new terminals, improved roadways, and enhanced public transportation options.
