Laax

Laax is a municipality in the Surselva region of the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland. It is well known for its winter sports facilities, especially for snowboarding and skiing, and has gained international recognition for hosting various winter sports events. The village is situated on a plateau overlooking the Rhine gorge, offering spectacular views and a picturesque setting.

Laax is part of the Weisse Arena Gruppe, together with the neighboring villages of Flims and Falera, forming one of the largest linked skiing areas in Switzerland, known as the Flims Laax Falera ski resort. The area is also popular in summer, with hiking, mountain biking, and other outdoor activities available.

The municipality encompasses a large area of forest and mountainous terrain, including the Vorab Glacier, which ensures a long skiing season, often from November to April. The elevation of the village itself is approximately 1,020 meters above sea level, with the skiing area reaching up to 3,018 meters at the Vorab Glacier.
