Lakmé Cosmetics
Indian cosmetics brand
Lakmé Cosmetics is a leading cosmetics brand in India, known for its wide range of beauty and personal care products. Established in 1952, Lakmé has become synonymous with beauty and fashion in India, offering products that cater to the diverse needs of Indian women.
History[edit | edit source]
Lakmé was founded in 1952 as a subsidiary of Tata Group, one of India's largest and oldest conglomerates. The brand was named after the French opera Lakmé, which itself is the French form of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and beauty in Hindu mythology. The brand was created to cater to the Indian market, which at the time was heavily reliant on imported cosmetics.
In 1996, Lakmé was sold to Hindustan Unilever, a subsidiary of the British-Dutch multinational company Unilever. This acquisition allowed Lakmé to expand its product line and reach a broader audience.
Product Range[edit | edit source]
Lakmé offers a comprehensive range of beauty products, including:
- Skincare: Lakmé's skincare line includes moisturizers, cleansers, and sunscreens designed to suit various skin types and conditions.
- Makeup: The brand is well-known for its makeup products, which include foundations, lipsticks, eyeliners, and more. Lakmé's makeup is designed to complement Indian skin tones and withstand the country's diverse climate conditions.
- Haircare: Although primarily known for skincare and makeup, Lakmé also offers a selection of haircare products.
