LeFrak City

LeFrak City is a large housing development in the Corona neighborhood of Queens, New York City. It was constructed by the LeFrak Organization, a real estate company, and was completed in 1969. The development consists of 20 buildings, each 16 or 17 stories high, and houses approximately 25,000 residents.

LeFrak City was built on a 40-acre site that was previously used for the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair. The development was named after its builder, Samuel J. LeFrak, who was the head of the LeFrak Organization at the time. The construction of LeFrak City began in 1960 and was completed in 1969. The development was designed to provide affordable housing for middle-class families.

Architecture[edit | edit source]

The architecture of LeFrak City is characterized by its uniform, boxy design. The buildings are made of red brick and have large, rectangular windows. Each building has a central courtyard, which provides green space for residents. The development also includes several amenities, such as a swimming pool, tennis courts, and a shopping center.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

LeFrak City is home to a diverse population. Over the years, it has been home to immigrants from various countries, including Dominican, Chinese, and Bangladeshi immigrants. The development has also been home to several notable residents, including Kenny Anderson, a former professional basketball player, and Noreaga, a rapper.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

LeFrak City is served by several New York City Subway lines, including the IRT Flushing Line and the IND Queens Boulevard Line. It is also served by several bus lines, including the Q58, Q59, and Q60.
