Lennert

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Lennert's lymphoma is a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma characterized by the presence of large, atypical lymphocytes in the lymph nodes. It was first described by the Belgian pathologist Karel Lennert in 1975. The disease is also known as Lennert's lymphoma or lymphoepithelioid lymphoma.

Symptoms[edit | edit source]

The symptoms of Lennert's lymphoma are similar to those of other types of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. They may include fatigue, fever, night sweats, and unexplained weight loss. Swollen lymph nodes are also a common symptom.

Diagnosis[edit | edit source]

The diagnosis of Lennert's lymphoma is based on the examination of a biopsy of an affected lymph node. The characteristic feature of this disease is the presence of large, atypical lymphocytes with clear cytoplasm, known as Lennert cells.

Treatment[edit | edit source]

The treatment of Lennert's lymphoma typically involves chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or a combination of both. The choice of treatment depends on the stage of the disease and the patient's overall health.

Prognosis[edit | edit source]

The prognosis of Lennert's lymphoma is generally poor, with a median survival time of less than five years. However, some patients may live longer with appropriate treatment.
