Leopard gecko
The Leopard Gecko (Eublepharis macularius) is a species of terrestrial lizard native to the arid regions of Afghanistan, Pakistan, north-west India, and Iran. It is a popular pet due to its docile nature and ease of care.

Leopard Geckos are small to medium-sized lizards, typically reaching lengths of 18 to 25 cm (7 to 10 inches). They have a robust body, a large head, and a thick tail that serves as a fat storage organ. Their skin is covered in small, granular scales, and they exhibit a variety of color morphs, though they are typically yellow with black spots, resembling the pattern of a leopard, hence their name.
Habitat[edit | edit source]
In the wild, Leopard Geckos inhabit rocky, dry grassland and desert regions. They are primarily nocturnal, seeking shelter during the day under rocks or in burrows to avoid the harsh sun and predators.
Diet[edit | edit source]
Leopard Geckos are insectivorous, feeding on a variety of insects such as crickets, mealworms, and waxworms. In captivity, they are often fed commercially available insect diets supplemented with vitamins and minerals to ensure proper nutrition.
Reproduction[edit | edit source]
Leopard Geckos are oviparous, laying eggs in clutches of one to two. Females can lay multiple clutches during the breeding season. The sex of the offspring is temperature-dependent, with higher incubation temperatures generally producing more males.
Behavior[edit | edit source]
These geckos are known for their calm demeanor and are often handled by reptile enthusiasts. They communicate through a series of chirps and squeaks, especially during mating season.
Conservation Status[edit | edit source]
The Leopard Gecko is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN due to its wide distribution and large population. However, habitat destruction and the pet trade can pose threats to local populations.

Leopard Geckos are one of the most popular reptile pets. They require a simple setup with a warm basking area, a cooler hide, and a shallow water dish. They thrive in a temperature gradient of 24-30°C (75-86°F) and require UVB lighting for optimal health.
