List of Ethiopian and Eritrean dishes and foods

List_of_Ethiopian_and_Eritrean_dishes_and_foods is a compilation of the various dishes and foods that are native to Ethiopia and Eritrea. These cuisines share a lot of similarities due to their shared history and geographical proximity.

Ethiopian Dishes[edit | edit source]

Injera is a sourdough flatbread that is a staple in Ethiopian cuisine. It is usually served with a variety of stews and salads.

Doro Wat is a spicy chicken stew that is considered a national dish of Ethiopia. It is often served with injera.

Kitfo is a dish made from raw minced beef, traditionally seasoned with mitmita (a chili powder-based spice blend) and niter kibbeh (a clarified butter infused with herbs and spices).

Eritrean Dishes[edit | edit source]

Zigni is a spicy stew made from beef or lamb, tomatoes, and berbere spice. It is often served with injera.

Shiro is a stew made from powdered chickpeas or broad bean meal. It is often served with injera.

Kitcha Fit-Fit is a breakfast dish made from shredded, unsweetened kitcha (Eritrean bread), clarified butter, and berbere spice.

Tibs is a dish made from sautéed or grilled meat. It can be found in both Ethiopian and Eritrean cuisines.

Berbere is a spice mixture that is a key ingredient in many Ethiopian and Eritrean dishes.

Tej is a honey wine that is commonly consumed in both Ethiopia and Eritrea.
