List of Sami dishes

Sami Dishes are traditional meals prepared by the Sami people, an indigenous group residing in the Arctic area encompassing parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia, known as Sápmi. The Sami cuisine is based on the resources available in the harsh Arctic environment, including reindeer, fish, and berries.

Reindeer Dishes[edit | edit source]

Suovas is a traditional Sami dish made from smoked reindeer meat. The meat is often sliced thinly and served with potatoes and lingonberries.

Bidos is a Sami stew made from reindeer meat, water, salt, and pepper. It is traditionally served at Sami celebrations.

Leipäjuusto also known as "Finnish squeaky cheese", is often served with cloudberries and reindeer meat.

Fish Dishes[edit | edit source]

Sik Sak is a traditional Sami dish made from Arctic char. The fish is often smoked or dried and served with potatoes and butter.

Rakfisk is a traditional Norwegian dish, also popular among the Sami people. It is made from fermented fish, typically trout or char.

Berry Dishes[edit | edit source]

Aakkoset is a dessert made from cloudberries, a berry native to the Arctic regions. The berries are often served with cream and sugar.

Lakka is a liqueur made from cloudberries. It is often served as a digestif after meals.

Bread and Pastries[edit | edit source]

Gáhkku is a traditional Sami flatbread. It is often served with reindeer meat or fish.

Lefse is a traditional Norwegian flatbread, also popular among the Sami people. It is often served with butter, sugar, and cinnamon.
