The concept of dinner theater originated in the United States in the mid-20th century. The first dinner theater, Barksdale Theatre, was established in 1953 in Virginia. The popularity of dinner theaters peaked in the 1970s, with over 400 such establishments in the U.S. Despite a decline in popularity in the following decades, dinner theaters remain a popular form of entertainment in many parts of the world.
