MNsure

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

MNsure is the health insurance marketplace for the U.S. state of Minnesota. The marketplace enables people and small businesses to purchase health insurance at federally subsidized rates.

History[edit | edit source]

MNsure was established in 2013 as a part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The ACA, also known as Obamacare, required each state to establish a health insurance marketplace, or to use the federal marketplace. Minnesota chose to establish its own marketplace, which it named MNsure.

Function[edit | edit source]

MNsure operates as an online marketplace where Minnesotans can compare and purchase health insurance plans. It is intended for individuals and families who do not have access to affordable health insurance through an employer, as well as for small businesses with up to 50 employees. MNsure is the only place where Minnesotans can qualify for financial help to lower the cost of their monthly insurance premium.

Criticism and Controversy[edit | edit source]

MNsure has faced criticism and controversy since its inception. Technical problems with the website and call center, as well as issues with the enrollment process, have led to frustration and dissatisfaction among users. Despite these challenges, MNsure has helped to reduce the number of uninsured Minnesotans.
