Magill

Magill is a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It is located in the City of Burnside and the City of Campbelltown. It incorporates the suburb previously known as Koongarra Park.

Magill was first established as the 524-acre (2.12 km2) Makgill Estate, owned by Robert Cock and William Ferguson, who were significant figures in the early settlement of South Australia. The name of the suburb comes from the Magill Estate, which was derived from the names of two Scotsmen, "Mak" (Robert Cock) and "Gill" (William Ferguson).

Geography[edit | edit source]

Magill is located at the foot of the Adelaide Hills, within 10 kilometres of Adelaide CBD. The suburb is bordered by Glynburn Road to the west, and St. Bernards Road to the south.

Education[edit | edit source]

Magill is home to several educational institutions, including Magill School, Norwood Morialta High School, and the University of South Australia's Magill Campus.

Notable residents[edit | edit source]

Several notable individuals have resided in Magill, including world-renowned artist Hans Heysen, and former Australian cricketer Jason Gillespie.
