María Guggiari Echeverría (12 January 1925 – 28 April 1959) was a Paraguayan Roman Catholic religious sister and a member of the Discalced Carmelite Order. She is also known by her religious name, María Felicia of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

María Guggiari Echeverría was born on 12 January 1925 in Villarrica, Paraguay. She was the eldest of seven children in a devout Catholic family. Her parents, Ramón Guggiari and María Arminda Echeverría, were known for their strong faith and commitment to the Church.

Religious Vocation[edit | edit source]

From a young age, María felt a deep calling to religious life. She was actively involved in her local parish and the Catholic Action movement, where she worked with youth and the poor. Her spiritual director, Father Julio César Duarte Ortellado, played a significant role in guiding her vocation.

In 1955, María entered the Discalced Carmelites in Asunción, taking the name María Felicia of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. She made her first vows on 14 August 1956. Her life in the convent was marked by a deep devotion to the Eucharist and a commitment to prayer and sacrifice.

Death and Beatification[edit | edit source]

María Guggiari Echeverría died on 28 April 1959 at the age of 34, after a brief illness. Her cause for beatification was opened in 1997, and she was declared Venerable by Pope Francis on 27 March 2010. She was beatified on 23 June 2018 in a ceremony held in Asunción, Paraguay.

María Guggiari Echeverría is remembered for her deep faith, humility, and dedication to the service of others. Her life continues to inspire many, particularly in Paraguay, where she is considered a model of holiness and devotion.
