Margarete Himmler (née Boden; 9 September 1893 – 25 August 1967) was the wife of Heinrich Himmler, a leading member of the Nazi Party and head of the Schutzstaffel (SS). Margarete, often referred to as "Marga," played a significant role in the social circles of the Nazi elite.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Margarete Boden was born on 9 September 1893 in Günzburg, Bavaria, German Empire. She came from a wealthy family and was well-educated. Margarete trained as a nurse and worked in this profession during World War I.

Marriage to Heinrich Himmler[edit | edit source]

Margarete met Heinrich Himmler in 1927, and the couple married on 3 July 1928. They had one daughter, Gudrun Himmler, born on 8 August 1929. The family lived in Munich and later moved to a house in Gmund am Tegernsee.

Role During the Nazi Era[edit | edit source]

Margarete Himmler was not deeply involved in the political activities of her husband but supported his career. She was a member of the National Socialist Women's League and participated in various social functions. Margarete managed the family's household and was known for her charitable work, particularly in nursing and welfare.

Post-War Life[edit | edit source]

After the fall of the Third Reich, Margarete Himmler was arrested by the Allied forces and underwent denazification processes. She lived a relatively quiet life after her release, avoiding public attention. Margarete Himmler died on 25 August 1967 in Munich, West Germany.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Margarete Himmler's life is often overshadowed by the actions of her husband, Heinrich Himmler. However, her role as a member of the Nazi elite's social circle provides insight into the domestic lives of high-ranking Nazi officials.
