Maria Josepha of Austria (8 December 1699 – 17 November 1757) was a member of the House of Habsburg by birth and by marriage, the Queen of Saxony.
Early Life[edit | edit source]
Maria Josepha was born in Vienna, Austria, the daughter of Emperor Joseph I and Wilhelmine Amalia. She was raised in the imperial court and received a comprehensive education.
Marriage and Reign[edit | edit source]
In 1719, Maria Josepha married Frederick Augustus II, Elector of Saxony and became the Electress of Saxony. The couple had one son, Frederick Christian, who later succeeded his father as Elector of Saxony.
Maria Josepha was known for her charitable works and patronage of the arts. She supported various cultural initiatives and was a benefactor of several artists and musicians.
Death[edit | edit source]
Maria Josepha passed away on 17 November 1757 in Dresden, Saxony. She was mourned by the people of Saxony for her kindness and generosity.
