Masahito, Prince Hitachi

Prince Masahito, also known as Prince Hitachi, is a member of the Japanese imperial family. He was born on November 28, 1935, as the younger son of Emperor Taisho and Empress Kojun. Prince Masahito is the younger brother of Emperor Akihito and the uncle of the current Emperor Naruhito.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Prince Masahito was educated at the Department of Political Science in the Faculty of Law at Gakushuin University. He also studied at the Graduate School of Gakushuin University.

Marriage and Family[edit | edit source]

In 1964, Prince Masahito married Hanako Tsugaru, the daughter of a former Japanese count. The couple does not have any children.

Activities[edit | edit source]

Prince Hitachi has been involved in various cultural and charitable activities. He has a keen interest in the arts and has been a patron of several cultural organizations in Japan.
