Mason C. Darling
Mason C. Darling (May 18, 1801 – March 12, 1866) was an American physician and politician who played a significant role in the early history of Wisconsin. He was a member of the Wisconsin Territorial Legislature and later served as a U.S. Representative from Wisconsin.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Mason Cook Darling was born in Amherst, Massachusetts. He pursued classical studies and graduated from Williams College in 1824. He then studied medicine and began practicing as a physician in Berkshire County, Massachusetts.

Medical Practice[edit | edit source]
Darling moved to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin in 1843, where he continued his medical practice. He was one of the first physicians in the area and played a crucial role in establishing medical services in the region.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Darling was elected to the Wisconsin Territorial Legislature in 1847. He was a delegate to the first Wisconsin Constitutional Convention in 1846, which aimed to draft a state constitution for Wisconsin's admission to the Union.
In 1848, Darling was elected as a Democrat to the United States House of Representatives for the 31st Congress, serving from March 4, 1849, to March 3, 1851. During his term, he focused on issues related to the development and infrastructure of the new state.
After serving in Congress, Darling returned to his medical practice in Fond du Lac. He also engaged in various business ventures, including banking and real estate.

Mason C. Darling is remembered for his contributions to the early development of Wisconsin, both as a physician and a politician. His efforts in the Wisconsin Territorial Legislature and the U.S. Congress helped shape the state's early legislative framework.
Death[edit | edit source]
Darling passed away on March 12, 1866, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. He is buried in Rienzi Cemetery in Fond du Lac.
