MasterChef Australia is a popular Australian competitive cooking game show. It is based on the original British MasterChef series and is produced by Shine Australia and screens on Network 10. The show is judged by renowned chefs George Calombaris, Gary Mehigan, and Matt Preston.

The format of MasterChef Australia involves a large number of contestants from across Australia individually auditioning by presenting a food dish before the three judges in order to gain one of the 50 semi-final places. The semi-finalists then compete in several challenges which test their food knowledge and preparation skills.
Series Overview[edit | edit source]
MasterChef Australia has aired over twelve seasons since its premiere in 2009. Each season features a different group of contestants, varying challenges, and a multitude of guest chefs from around the world.
Season 1[edit | edit source]
The first season of MasterChef Australia was broadcast between 27 April 2009 and 19 July 2009. The winner was Julie Goodwin, a former IT project manager from New South Wales.
Season 2[edit | edit source]
The second season aired in 2010, with Adam Liaw emerging as the winner. He is a lawyer from South Australia, and his victory was watched by millions of viewers across the country.
Reception[edit | edit source]
MasterChef Australia has been highly successful since it first aired, and it has been praised for its positive and encouraging tone, as opposed to the combative style of other reality TV shows. It has also been commended for promoting a love of food and cooking.
Spin-offs[edit | edit source]
MasterChef Australia has also spawned a number of spin-off series, including Celebrity MasterChef Australia, Junior MasterChef Australia, and MasterChef Australia All-Stars.
