McAfrika

The McAfrika is a burger that was introduced by the McDonald's corporation in Norway in 2002. It was one of the many unique items that McDonald's has introduced around the world as part of their Global Menu.

History[edit | edit source]

The McAfrika was introduced in Norway in 2002 as a limited-time offering. The burger was made up of beef, cheese, tomatoes, and salad, all wrapped in a pita bread. The recipe was based on an authentic African recipe, hence the name McAfrika.

Controversy[edit | edit source]

The introduction of the McAfrika burger was met with controversy. Critics argued that it was in poor taste to name a burger after a continent that was, at the time, experiencing widespread famine. McDonald's responded to the criticism by allowing aid agencies to place donation boxes and informational literature in their Norwegian outlets.

Reintroduction[edit | edit source]

Despite the controversy, the McAfrika was reintroduced in 2008 as part of a promotion for the 2008 Summer Olympics. The reintroduction was met with similar criticism as the original launch.
