McMenamins[edit | edit source]

McMenamins is a family-owned chain of brewpubs, breweries, music venues, historic hotels, and theater pubs in Oregon and Washington. Many of their locations are in rehabilitated historical properties.

History[edit | edit source]

McMenamins was founded by brothers Mike and Brian McMenamin in 1983. The first location was the Barley Mill Pub in Portland, Oregon. The company has since grown to include over 50 locations throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Properties[edit | edit source]

McMenamins is known for its unique properties, many of which are historic buildings that have been repurposed. Some of the most notable include:

  • Edgefield: A former poor farm in Troutdale, Oregon, now a hotel with a golf course, spa, movie theater, and several bars and restaurants.
  • Kennedy School: A former elementary school in Portland, Oregon, now a hotel with a restaurant, bars, and a movie theater.
  • Crystal Ballroom: A historic dance hall in Portland, Oregon, now a music venue.

Many McMenamins locations also serve as music venues. The Crystal Ballroom in Portland is one of the most well-known, hosting a variety of local and national acts.

In addition to their brewpubs and music venues, McMenamins operates several unique hotels. These include the Kennedy School in Portland and the Edgefield in Troutdale.
