McPherson County, South Dakota is a county located in the U.S. state of South Dakota. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,459. Its county seat is Leola. The county was created in 1873 and organized in 1884. It is named after Civil War General James B. McPherson.

McPherson County is located in the northeastern part of South Dakota. It is bordered by Brown County to the east, Edmunds County to the south, Campbell County to the west, and Dickey County, North Dakota to the north.
