Meigs County is a county located in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 12,315. Its county seat is Decatur. The county was established in 1836 and named for Return J. Meigs Sr., a Revolutionary War officer and early settler.

Meigs County was formed in 1836 from parts of Rhea and McMinn counties. The county is named after Return J. Meigs Sr., who was a notable figure in the early history of Tennessee.
Geography[edit | edit source]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 217 square miles (560 km²), of which 195 square miles (510 km²) is land and 22 square miles (57 km²) (10%) is water. The county is part of the Tennessee River Valley and features a mix of rolling hills and flatlands.
