Mental Floss (often stylized as mental_floss) is a digital, print, and e-commerce media company focused on millennials. It was founded in 2001 by Will Pearson and Mangesh Hattikudur while they were students at Duke University.

Will Pearson and Mangesh Hattikudur met at Duke University and launched Mental Floss. The magazine was initially published by the pair from their dorm room. The company's first board consisted of their college roommates and friends from Duke and Northwestern University.

Mental Floss publishes content across various platforms, including a website, YouTube channel, podcasts, and formerly in a bimonthly print magazine. The magazine and website are known for their blend of knowledge and humor, with articles often featuring a light-hearted tone. The Mental Floss website was launched in 2002. It features daily blog posts, quizzes, and lists. The website's content is similar to that of the print magazine, but also includes web-specific features such as interactive quizzes and flashcards.

The Mental Floss YouTube channel was launched in 2013. It features weekly videos on topics similar to those covered in the magazine and on the website. The channel has hosted several notable personalities, including John Green, who hosted the channel's The List Show from 2013 to 2016.

In 2011, Mental Floss was acquired by Felix Dennis, the founder of Maxim. In 2018, it was sold to Minute Media, a digital, global, technology-driven media company.
