Northwestern University is a private research university located in Evanston, Illinois, United States. It was founded in 1851 by nine men whose goal was to establish a university that would serve the Northwest Territories.

Northwestern University was chartered on January 28, 1851, through the efforts of nine men who were prominent in the Chicago business community. The university's founders, who were Methodists, wanted to establish a university to serve what were then the states of Illinois, Wisconsin, and parts of Minnesota.

Academics[edit | edit source]

Northwestern University is composed of twelve schools and colleges. Among these are the Feinberg School of Medicine, the Pritzker School of Law, and the Kellogg School of Management. The university offers over 120 undergraduate programs and nearly 150 graduate and professional programs.

The Feinberg School of Medicine, located in Chicago, is one of the top-ranking medical schools in the United States. It is known for its innovative teaching and pioneering research in areas such as cardiology, oncology, and neurology.
