Michael Dean Cohen (born August 25, 1966) is an American attorney who served as a personal lawyer to Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States. Cohen was a vice-president of the Trump Organization and a board member of the Eric Trump Foundation. He gained significant media attention for his role in various legal matters involving Trump, including the Stormy Daniels scandal.

Michael Cohen was born in Lawrence, New York, to a Jewish family. He attended American University in Washington, D.C., where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. He later obtained his Juris Doctor from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Michigan.

Early Career[edit | edit source]

Before joining the Trump Organization, Cohen worked as a personal injury lawyer and was involved in the taxi business in New York City. He also served as a partner at the law firm Phillips, Nizer, Benjamin, Krim & Ballon.

Trump Organization[edit | edit source]

Cohen joined the Trump Organization in 2006, where he worked as an attorney and was involved in various business ventures. He became known as Trump's "fixer," handling sensitive matters and legal disputes.

Legal Issues[edit | edit source]

In 2018, Cohen became embroiled in legal controversies, including the Stormy Daniels scandal, where he facilitated a payment to the adult film actress to prevent her from speaking about an alleged affair with Trump. This led to investigations by federal prosecutors.

In August 2018, Cohen pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including tax evasion, bank fraud, and campaign finance violations. He was sentenced to three years in federal prison.

Cohen is married to Laura Shusterman, and they have two children. He has been involved in various philanthropic activities and has expressed interest in writing and public speaking.
