Midori liqueur

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Midori is a sweet, bright-green coloured, melon-flavored liqueur produced in Japan. It is manufactured by Suntory, a multinational brewing and distilling company. Midori, which means "green" in Japanese, was first concocted in 1978, with its melon flavor derived from Yubari King Melon and Musk Melon.

History[edit | edit source]

Midori was first launched at the legendary Studio 54 nightclub in New York City in 1978. It was initially manufactured exclusively in Japan by Suntory, but production has since expanded to Mexico and France due to its popularity.

Production[edit | edit source]

The production of Midori involves two types of melons, the Yubari King Melon and the Musk Melon. The melons are harvested in July and August, and the juice is extracted, then mixed with neutral spirits, sugar, and other flavorings. The mixture is then aged for up to three months before being filtered and bottled.

Usage[edit | edit source]

Midori is often used in cocktails for its vibrant color and sweet melon flavor. Some of the most popular cocktails made with Midori include the Midori Sour, Japanese Slipper, and the Melon Ball. It can also be enjoyed on its own, either neat or on the rocks.
