Milk Frother

A Milk Frother is a small kitchen appliance used for frothing milk, a process that aerates the milk, creating a dense foam composed of small bubbles. The froth produced by a milk frother is used in making coffee drinks like cappuccino and latte, enhancing their texture and taste.

History[edit | edit source]

The concept of frothing milk has been around since the inception of creamy coffee drinks. However, the first patent for a steam-based milk frother was filed in 1890 by Luigi Bezzera, an Italian inventor. The invention was aimed at speeding up the process of making espresso and its variants.

Types of Milk Frothers[edit | edit source]

There are three main types of milk frothers: handheld frothers, jug frothers, and built-in frothers.

Handheld Frothers[edit | edit source]

Handheld Frothers are small, battery-operated devices that use a small whisk at the end of a stick to froth milk. They are portable and easy to clean.

Jug Frothers[edit | edit source]

Jug Frothers are electric devices that heat and froth milk in a jug. They are typically larger and more expensive than handheld frothers but produce a higher quality froth.

Built-in Frothers[edit | edit source]

Built-in Frothers are integrated into espresso machines. They use steam to froth milk, creating a very fine, creamy froth.

How to Use a Milk Frother[edit | edit source]

To use a milk frother, fill a jug with milk, ensuring not to exceed the maximum fill line. Then, choose the desired setting on the frother, if applicable. For handheld frothers, immerse the whisk in the milk and turn on the frother. For jug frothers, simply turn on the device. For built-in frothers, turn on the steam and immerse the steam wand in the milk.
