Milwaukee County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 939,489, making it the most populous county in Wisconsin. The county seat is Milwaukee, which is also the largest city in the county and the state.

Milwaukee County was created in 1835 as part of the Michigan Territory. It was named after the Milwaukee River, which flows through the county. The area was originally inhabited by various Native American tribes, including the Menominee, Potawatomi, and Ho-Chunk.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Milwaukee County is located in the southeastern part of Wisconsin, along the western shore of Lake Michigan. The county has a total area of 1,190 square miles, of which 241 square miles is land and 949 square miles is water.
