Minnetonka is a city located in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. It is a western suburb of Minneapolis and is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. With a population of 53,458 as of 2019, Minnetonka is the 16th largest city in Minnesota.

Minnetonka was founded in 1850 and incorporated as a city in 1956. The city's name is derived from the Dakota Sioux word "Mníȟtȟóǧa", which means "great water". The area was originally inhabited by the Dakota and Ojibwe Native American tribes.

. It covers a total area of 27.40 square miles, of which 22.84 square miles is land and 4.53 square miles is water. The city is situated on the shores of Lake Minnetonka, one of the largest lakes in Minnesota.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

As of 2019, the population of Minnetonka was 53,458. The city has a population density of 2,340.2 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the city is 85.6% White, 5.9% Asian, 4.6% African American, 2.3% Hispanic or Latino, and 1.6% from other races.

Minnetonka is home to several major corporations, including UnitedHealth Group, Cargill, and Carlson Companies. These companies contribute significantly to the city's economy and provide employment opportunities for its residents.
