Miriam Karlin
Miriam Karlin (23 June 1925 – 3 June 2011) was a British actress known for her work on stage, film, and television. She was particularly recognized for her role as Paddy in the television sitcom The Rag Trade.

Miriam Karlin was born Miriam Samuels in Hampstead, London, to a Jewish family. Her father was a barrister, and her mother was a homemaker. She attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) to train as an actress.
Career[edit | edit source]
Karlin's career spanned over six decades, during which she became a familiar face on British television and in theatre. She made her stage debut in 1943 and went on to perform in numerous productions in the West End and with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Miriam Karlin is perhaps best known for her role as Paddy in the BBC sitcom The Rag Trade, which aired from 1961 to 1963 and was revived in the 1970s. Her catchphrase "Everybody out!" became iconic. She also appeared in other television series such as The Avengers, Doctor Who, and Casualty.

Karlin's film credits include roles in A Clockwork Orange (1971), directed by Stanley Kubrick, and The Entertainer (1960), directed by Tony Richardson.
