Mondeuse blanche

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Mondeuse blanche is a white French wine grape variety that is grown primarily in the Savoy region of France. This grape is also known as Grosse Mondeuse and is a sibling of the more popular red wine grape variety, Mondeuse noire.

History[edit | edit source]

The origins of Mondeuse blanche are not entirely clear, but it is believed to have originated in the Savoy region of France. It is a sibling of the red wine grape variety, Mondeuse noire, and is thought to be an older variety. The grape is also known as Grosse Mondeuse, although it is not as widely grown or as well-known as its red sibling.

Viticulture[edit | edit source]

Mondeuse blanche is a hardy grape variety that can withstand cold winters and is resistant to many common grape diseases. It is a mid-ripening variety, typically harvested in late September or early October. The grape produces small, compact clusters of medium-sized berries that are yellow-green in color.

Wine Production[edit | edit source]

The wines produced from Mondeuse blanche are typically high in acidity and have a light to medium body. They often have floral and citrus fruit aromas, with flavors of green apple, pear, and lemon. These wines are typically consumed young and are not known for their aging potential.

Regions[edit | edit source]

While Mondeuse blanche is primarily grown in the Savoy region of France, it can also be found in small quantities in other wine regions of France, as well as in Switzerland and Italy.

Food Pairing[edit | edit source]

Due to its high acidity and light to medium body, Mondeuse blanche pairs well with a variety of foods. It is particularly well-suited to pairing with seafood, poultry, and light pasta dishes.
