Mynydd Mawr Hospital was originally established as a tuberculosis sanatorium in the early 20th century. It was later converted into a general hospital, providing a range of healthcare services to the local community.

The hospital provides a variety of services including geriatric medicine, rehabilitation medicine, and palliative care. It also houses a Minor Injuries Unit that operates 24 hours a day.
