Nøgne Ø
Nøgne Ø is a Norwegian brewery located in Grimstad, Norway. It was founded in 2002 by Kjetil Jikiun and Gunnar Wiig. The name "Nøgne Ø" translates to "Naked Island" in English, which is a term used by the famous Norwegian poet Henrik Ibsen to describe the barren islands of Norway's southern coast.
History[edit | edit source]
Nøgne Ø was established with the aim of producing high-quality craft beers. The founders, Kjetil Jikiun, a former airline pilot, and Gunnar Wiig, a homebrewer, were inspired by the craft beer movement in the United States. They started brewing in a small facility in Grimstad and quickly gained a reputation for their innovative and bold beer styles.
Beers[edit | edit source]
Nøgne Ø is known for its wide range of beers, including IPAs, stouts, porters, and saisons. Some of their most popular beers include:
- Nøgne Ø IPA - A hoppy and aromatic India Pale Ale.
- Nøgne Ø Imperial Stout - A rich and robust stout with notes of coffee and chocolate.
- Nøgne Ø Saison - A refreshing and spicy farmhouse ale.
The brewery also produces seasonal and limited-edition beers, often experimenting with different ingredients and brewing techniques.
Production[edit | edit source]
Nøgne Ø uses traditional brewing methods combined with modern technology to produce their beers. They source high-quality ingredients, including malt, hops, and yeast, from both local and international suppliers. The brewery is committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility, implementing practices such as recycling and energy efficiency.

Nøgne Ø has received numerous awards and accolades for their beers, both nationally and internationally. They have been recognized at prestigious beer competitions such as the World Beer Cup and the European Beer Star.
