NDTV was established in 1988 as a production house for news and current affairs television programming. It initially produced "The World This Week" for Doordarshan, India's public broadcaster. In 1998, NDTV launched its own 24-hour news channel, NDTV 24x7, which quickly became one of the most-watched news channels in India. Over the years, NDTV expanded its operations to include multiple channels, such as NDTV India (a Hindi news channel) and NDTV Profit (a business news channel).
