History

Nabisco was founded in 1898 by the merger of the American Biscuit and Manufacturing Company and the New York Biscuit Company. The company quickly became a leader in the snack food industry, known for its innovative products and marketing strategies.

Early Years

In the early 20th century, Nabisco introduced several iconic products, including the Oreo cookie in 1912. The Oreo quickly became one of the best-selling cookies in the United States and remains a flagship product for the company.

Mid-20th Century

During the mid-20th century, Nabisco continued to expand its product line and market reach. The company introduced Ritz Crackers in 1934 and Chips Ahoy! cookies in 1963. These products further solidified Nabisco's position in the snack food industry.

Acquisition by R.J. Reynolds

In 1985, Nabisco was acquired by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, forming RJR Nabisco. This merger was one of the largest corporate takeovers in history at the time. However, the merger was short-lived, and Nabisco was later spun off as an independent company.

Mondelez International

In 2000, Nabisco was acquired by Philip Morris Companies Inc., which later became Altria Group. Nabisco was then merged with Kraft Foods, and in 2012, Kraft Foods split into two companies: Kraft Heinz and Mondelez International. Nabisco became part of Mondelez International, where it remains today.
