Naomi Ellen Watts (born 28 September 1968) is a British and Australian actress and film producer. She made her film debut in the Australian drama For Love Alone (1986) and then appeared in the Australian television series Hey Dad..! (1990), Brides of Christ (1991), and the film Flirting (1991). She gained international recognition for her role in Mulholland Drive (2001), directed by David Lynch.

Naomi Watts was born in Shoreham, Kent, England. Her mother, Myfanwy Edwards "Miv" (née Roberts), is a Welsh antiques dealer and costume and set designer, and her father, Peter Watts, was a road manager and sound engineer who worked with Pink Floyd. Following her father's death in 1976, Watts moved with her mother and brother to Australia.

Watts began her career in Australian television, appearing in series such as Home and Away and E Street. Her breakthrough came with the film Flirting (1991), where she starred alongside Nicole Kidman.
Breakthrough and Success[edit | edit source]
Watts gained international fame with her performance in Mulholland Drive (2001), a psychological thriller that received critical acclaim. Her role as Betty Elms/Diane Selwyn showcased her versatility and earned her several award nominations.
In 2002, she starred in the horror film The Ring, which was a commercial success and further established her as a leading actress in Hollywood.

Watts received Academy Award nominations for Best Actress for her roles in 21 Grams (2003) and The Impossible (2012). Her portrayal of a mother struggling to survive a tsunami in The Impossible was particularly praised for its emotional depth.
